Make-A-Wish

"We grant the wishes of children with life threatening medical conditions

to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy"

Apply for a Wish

Each wish-granting situation is a unique experience for the child, their family, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. However, there is a general process by which a child is referred, qualified, and granted a wish.

Step 1 - Wish Referral

Make-A-Wish Foundation of UAE accepts wish referrals from many sources:

  • The child
  • The child's parent, legal guardian, relative or friend
  • A medical professional treating the child (doctor, nurse, or social worker)

If the initial call comes from someone other than those listed above, we always ask that the family be notified to call directly on their own behalf.

Step 2 - Determine Eligibility

After a child is referred, the Foundation will contact the child's treating physician to determine if the child is medically eligible for a wish, based on the medical criteria established by Make-A-Wish Foundation International.

Step 3 - Identify the Wish

After the doctor confirms that the child is medically eligible, Make-A-Wish Foundation of UAE assigns a volunteer wish team to coordinate the wish-granting process. When a wish team visits with a child, the volunteers ultimately ask him/her one important question: "If you could wish for anything in the world, what would it be?" Once the National Office approves the child's wish, the wish team sets out to make it come true. A child is also asked to list two wish alternatives in the event that the primary wish cannot be granted.

Step 4 - Grant the Wish

After talking with the child, wish granters set out to create a magical wish experience for the child that will last a lifetime. Every effort is made to include the immediate family in the child's wish. The wish experience often touches dozens, and sometimes hundreds of people who either help coordinate or are directly involved in the wish.

Who Qualifies for a Wish?

To qualify for a wish, an eligible child must:

  • Have a life-threatening medical condition, confirmed by a UAE doctor
  • 2. Be between the ages of 3 and 18 years
  • 3. Hold a UAE passport or residence visa
  • 4. Not have received a previous wish from a Make-A-Wish Foundation

If a child meets all of the criteria, they automatically become eligible to have a wish granted.
